We cannot talk about detoxification without mentioning the liver. Life depends upon the liver this is a saying that has been since ages. The liver is a complex and largest gland associated with the digestive system in the body, it has several functions in our nutritional well being, the large size of the liver is matched by its functional complexity and in diverse array of regulatory mechanism.
It performs about a hundred (100) functions which may be classified into 7 major categories.
I’ll just list them and continue with the topic of the day
1. Carbohydrate metabolism
2. Protein metabolism 3. Bile excretion
4. Vitamin metabolism 5. Mineral metabolism 6. Lipid metabolism
Definition of terms
*Detoxification* is the physiological or medicinal removal of toxic substances from a living organism, including the human body, which is mainly carried out by the liver.
Physiologically speaking, detoxification is the primary biochemical process for removing toxins by converting non water soluble toxic compounds into water soluble compounds that can be eliminated through urine, sweat, bile or faeces, this process occurs in the liver and are influenced by genetics and the environment including DIETS.
The best detox is an overall healthy eating plan along with plenty of fluid that promotes regular trips to the bathroom/restroom.
Eating detoxifying foods, beverages, and spices almost always is beneficial to optimal health. Furthermore, eating certain foods has great potential to help facilitate/speed up the detoxification process.
There are a lot of them but I wont be able to list all, also considering that they are locally available foods and owing to our different Cultures and Languages.. Hence, i will mention the common ones.
Before talking about foods, I will define what nutrition is: *It is the science of food and its interaction with an organism to promote and maintain health.*
FIBER helps to bind toxins within the intestine and eliminate it through stool.
Figuring out which foods are best for detoxification could be tricky. So many foods feel refreshing and rejuvenating: *HOT TEA, RAW VEGETABLES AND FRESH FRUITS READILY COMES TO MIND*
It is noteworthy that foods with insoluble fiber like raw veggies or a diuretic effect like green tea promotes speedy digestion and flush the gastrointestinal tract (GIT).
*FRUITS* are high in liquid content which helps the body flush out toxins, they are also very easy to digest and high on antioxidants, nutrient, fiber and important Vitamins.
For a clearer understanding I will explain some of them.
*ANTIOXIDANTS:* slow down or even prevent the oxidation of other molecules such as the toxins *VITAMIN:* are organic compound the human body needs but does not produce enough of it on its own, therefore getting them through foods or supplements is necessary.
There are two categories of vitamins the body needs: water soluble and fat soluble vitamins.
Water soluble vitamins are VIT. B, C
Fat Soluble are VIT. A D E K.
WATER SOLUBLE are found in grains, fruits and vegetables because they break down easily in water and our bodies flush them out through urine and this requires we provide ourselves with a daily supply of vitamins.
NEXT IS GREEN FOODS: having spinach, wheat grass and other organic leafy greens will help give chlorophyll boost to your digestive tract.
Chlorophyll rids the body of harmful environmental toxins, toxic metals, pesticides etc
*OMEGA 3:* avocado, olive or flax seeds oil helps in detoxification too. It will help lubricate the body and the intestinal walls thereby allowing the toxins to be absorbed by the oil and eliminated.
*TUMERIC:* its a powerful anti inflammatory in the liver. It reduces blockage and curbed scarring (fibrosis) by interfering with the chemical reaction involved in the inflammatory process.
Detoxification has a role to play in helping us feel better and healthier. Your detoxification pathway is dependent on your nutritional status.

Fruits like lemon, Lime oranges mangoes apricot berries are in the market.
Onion, spinach, garlic, tumeric are wonder spices and highly medicinal i wrote about it. Add it to your cooking. You can get omega-3 from those ones i listed.
3. You could make a smoothie with the fruits you like
4. Lowers cholesterol. Boost the immune system. Improves digestion. Helps reduce stress
Let us not forget, that while trying to detoxify our body, we should watch the quantity and timing of what we eat so we don’t end up toxifying the body system
*DON’T FORCEFULLY STOP DIARRHEA* its a form of detoxing when the body identifies toxins
In expantiating, let me give some examples.
Fruits like lime, lemon, apple and orange etc with low pH levels should not be taken on empty stomach. By empty Idon’t just mean early in the morning. It takes about 2 to 3hrs for the stomach to empty itself. So taking these fruits on empty stomach can increase acid levels which may cause ulceration of gastrointestinal lining
Also, in d right proportion, a normal and apparently healthy individual should eat about 2 to 3 servings of fruits and 3 to 4 servings of vegetables daily.
Funny enough mint leaves can be found among weeds near our homes, the problem now is how to identify them
If you go to the market and ask for ‘nana’ that the local name. You can find it faster that way.
